Osmosis Potato Experiment

My lads love hands on experiments. I saw a course on Future learn and we have been doing the course together. Today we finished the first experiment. But we also Padded it out a bit more. Instead of Just the experiment we also used estimation, Descriptions of The potatoes before and after, using all of our senses. We also weighed out the lost water weight into a glass to visually show how much was lost.

Firstly we obtained two potatoes of same weight. One we kept to one side, The other wee microwaved for 10 minutes, stopping at every minute, to take out and weigh it, Did it weigh more, less or the same. We noted the date, after each minuted microwaved. My eldest even noticed the reason it lost more weight between 2-3 minutes than 1-2 minutes was because the potato was cold when it went in so more likely to use more energy to heat up to cause steam. Where as at 2-3 minutes the potato was already warm then hot.  We noted before and after weights and noted the difference.

Lastly we Drew a line graph and plotted the weight/Time ,and then the little one wanted to see inside the now rock hard (and cooled of course)  potato, it kept us amused for almost 2 hours!

Happy New year BRRR..

Finally got my finger out to make a post. We needed to get out , It's been cold and raining and haven't been out so far this week (Well apart from Nursery, Beevers, karate, cubs and Youth club!) What I mean Is we haven't been for an explore since Sunday . I needed to feel fresh air again. I love hiking and Geocaching and finding new areas to walk. I discovered walk4life that Users added walking routes they enjoyed. I'm sure there must be others, I just need to fond some more! We discovered there was a lovely route near the river that we had never seen or heard of , so after picking up littlest from Nursery off we went equipped with my Gps , a camera and waterproofs . We managed a 4 mile round walk today and came home just before dark and had hot chocolate! Bliss. I intend to get out 3 times a week for a 3-5 mile walk, I have put on 1.5 stone in 2 years , I have managed to loose 10lbs but I need to get back to a happy healthy weight. Wish me luck. Here's the walk4life site, It's a bit outdated but there should be some fab walks near you. http://www.walk4life.info/find-a-walk

Our weeks are flying past.

I have been trying to engage in things that make my heart sing as well as less time on social media.  Here is a few things we have done over the past 2 week ends . A trip to Leybourne warden bay for fossil hunting me met with a group of other Local Home edders. We then washed the found items and played Archaeologists (super fun for little ones just get a bucket an old tooth bush warm water, this keeps mu lads amused for at least an hour) A trip on one of the last lightship boats that was also a floating art gallery, we made china christmas decorations.  I finished off some christmas gifts and one for me. I made a fairy garden with my youngest. We went to Dickens world tour with another group of home ed families. We made Christmas Decs, Wrote to Santa and made our tree. And I saw beauty in my son and in the sun . For those who don't know I had an early loss before I had my youngest so he's a rainbow baby, Indeed he was born the morning after a storm and the last thing we saw before it git dark was a rainbow.  I wish you all a wonderful christmas and happy peaceful new year

Our washing machine died :(
